The story of Jack Guard® is deeply connected to its parent company, Carrington Development Company (CDC LLC), a company built on innovation, precision, and commitment to quality.
It all began with Thomas P. Carrington, a passionate musician frustrated by the damage that moisture, smoke, dust, and environmental contaminants were causing to his and his friend’s instruments and equipment. Seeing a gap in reliable solutions, he decided to create a product that would truly protect what musicians care about most.
Drawing on his expertise in music, engineering, and product design, and with the support of CDC’s resources and operational know-how, he developed a new antistatic, highly absorbent, and extremely durable material called Plasiccant®. He took his new material discovery to a large polymer manufacturer.
They first advised that the material wasn’t viable, and they were not willing to commit their valuable resources, time, and money required to develop such a material. Thomas provided them with his shop-made, finished material sample to examine.
After months of testing and conversations, they were able to confirm the material’s viability, uniqueness, and performance levels. They helped him refine and mass-produce Plasiccant®, a first-of-its-kind, moldable desiccant that can now be easily molded into any required shape. Our new Plasiccant® material was born, and the new Jack Guard product was finally realized.
More than a product, it represents a mission: to empower musicians and audio professionals with affordable, reliable, and easy-to-use gear protection.
From Plasiccant’s® humble beginnings in Thomas’s small workshop in Missouri, to becoming a new US-patented material, Jack Guard remains dedicated to quality, innovation, and applying the same passion to our products that drives every musician worldwide.
